Celebrating the RTI Listeners Club of Bangladesh and Its 18-Year Legacy of Cross-Cultural Connection

In a time when content is often consumed in rapid digital bursts, there’s something enduring about the quiet, immersive experience of shortwave radio. For the RTI Listeners Club of Bangladesh, radio is more than a medium—it’s a meaningful bridge between cultures. This dedicated group has spent nearly two decades deepening the connection between Bangladesh and Taiwan through the programs of Radio Taiwan International (RTI).

RTI Listeners Club of Bangladesh: Bridging Cultures Through Radio

The RTI Listeners Club of Bangladesh (RTILCB) was established on February 25, 2006, marking the beginning of a central platform for shortwave radio enthusiasts in Bangladesh. Inspired by the vision of fostering “A Bridge of Amity, Cordiality, and Friendship” between Bangladesh and Taiwan, RTILCB has grown into a vibrant community of dedicated listeners and advocates of Radio Taiwan International (RTI).

The journey of RTILCB began during a meeting with the then RTI Chairman, Mr. Feng Jeng Lin, and Carlson Huang of RTI’s English Service when Bangladeshi listeners led by Ashik Eqbal Tokon expressed their desire to create a unified fan club. Officially inaugurated on March 26, 2006, RTILCB set out with clear goals: promoting RTI across Bangladesh, strengthening the bond between the station and its listeners, and fostering cross-cultural connections.

Today, the RTI Listeners Club of Bangladesh boasts 192 active members and is a member of the Association of Bangladesh Club of DXing. The club actively engages in various initiatives, including monitoring RTI frequencies, organizing annual listener meetings, and distributing program schedules and promotional materials to expand RTI’s reach. One of its unique contributions has been managing a dedicated P.O. Box in Bangladesh to facilitate listener correspondence.

Over the years, RTILCB has played a crucial role in promoting Taiwan’s culture, history, and international presence through RTI’s programs. The club has also rekindled its passion for publishing a half-yearly newsletter, RTILCB Connection, which features engaging content, contests, and updates for listeners.

As RTILCB celebrates its 18th anniversary in 2024, it continues to strengthen its mission of connecting people across borders through the magic of shortwave radio. With active participation in international DXing communities and a strong relationship with RTI, the RTI Listeners Club of Bangladesh remains a shining example of the enduring power of radio to unite people worldwide.
